Shark Naomi Simson, Crooked Compass reveal new deal

Local travel entrepreneur Lisa Pagotto recently appeared on Channel 10’s Shark Tank, seeking funding for her business Crooked Compass.

While the sharks didn’t invest, it has led to a relationship between Pagotto and Naomi Simson, Red Balloon founder, which has led to the launch of a new tour with Simson visiting reindeer tribes in Mongolia.

“I guess the thing you didn’t see on air is that at the end I said she was a key man risk to the business – but I did say I’m happy to mentor you,” Simson told Travel Weekly.

“Crooked Compass trips are aspirational and that’s what do at Red Balloon,” Simson said.

Simson herself went travelling for three years and backpacked through China – when it had only opened up to the west for two years.

“People are moving away from being observers to being participants – you don’t want to just look at it, you want to experience it and why is it so special – there’s a real shift to participative travel and true experiences,” Simson said.
