The Gateway to the North is a world to explore!

On its annual list of “52 Places to Go” this year, The New York Times has named Canada its top travel destination for 2017.

The entire 9.985 million square kilometre country is “a world unto itself,” reports The New York Times.

In an annual list of top travel destinations compiled by The New York Times’ most distinguished travel editors, the Newspaper has recognised Canada as a country that has it all:

“It’s a world unto itself, with barely explored natural wonders and everything in between – from Vancouver Island surf breaks, culinary delights in Toronto and Montreal, and natural glories of parks like Banff in Calgary.”

With Canada celebrating its 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the New York Times acknowledges that this is the year to visit:

“Canada is rolling out the welcome mat. All of the country’s more than 200 national parks and historic sites are offering free admission through the year, from the turquoise lakes and mountain peaks of Banff in Alberta to the rolling dunes and red sandstone cliffs of Prince Edward Island along the Atlantic Coast to the newest reserve, the glacial-rounded Mealy Mountains in Labrador.”

“Meanwhile, in the capital, Ottawa, a full year of celebration is planned and more events will be on offer in Montreal, which turns 375 this year.”

Aussies are also keen to explore the lesser-known parts of Canada!

“With the favourable exchange rate close to parity with the Australian dollar, it’s little wonder Canada saw record numbers of Aussie travellers arriving on its shores in 2016,” reports Donna Campbell, Managing Director of Destination Canada GSA.

Canada, with “its cosmopolitan cities, historic Maritime provinces, and epic wildernesses … We expect an even great increase in Aussie visitors to the country in 2017,” added Campbell.
