Midweek Interview: Matt Granfield, Executive Director Marketing and Digital, Mantra Group

The challenge for the industry is… putting Australia on everyone’s bucket list.

The things I like about my job are… the challenge of working with a relatively small company that is rapidly opening hotels around the world.

And the frustrations are… working with a relatively small company that is rapidly opening hotels around the world.

If I didn’t work in travel I would… be bored.

Favourite airline? Air NZ strike a great balance of personality and professionalism.

My proudest moment is… every time my one year old boy learns something new.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… wagging school to go fishing.

I try to relax by… striking a balance between too little and too much wine.

The last time I feared for my life was… caught in a rip in big surf off the Gold Coast.

If I can, I always try to… avoid looking stupid. I’m not very good at avoiding it though.

I really wish I had… more hours in the day.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… to have goals, not dreams.

I don’t understand why… people just can’t all get along.

My greatest weakness is… when I haven’t had enough sleep.

And my greatest strength is… choosing the right people around me.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would… start some sort of social enterprise.

If I was prime minister I would… do everything we thought Malcolm Turnbull would do but hasn’t.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… my one year old. It would be great to see the world through fresh eyes again.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Alaska.

My favourite holiday was… lazing by the water in a house at 1770 one Easter. Despite seeing a lot of the world, I’ve never been more relaxed or inspired than driving up the Coast for a week of doing not much.
