See British Columbia like a specialist

Destination Canada is in the midst of hosting more than one hundred agents from around the world on its annual Canada Specialists famil.

International agents have been sent to British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Yukon, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia.

Travel Weekly will be running a series of trip diaries from the agents involved over the coming few weeks, but so far we have a run-down of Team British Columbia to whet your appetite for Canada.

Australia is represented by Vaughan Sexton from Reho Travel and joins agents from Germany, England, France, China, Korea, India, and Mexico.

The famil kicked off in Vancouver with a site to Rosewood Hotel Georgia and dinner at its speak-easy prohibition bar, marked only by a green light at street level.

On the way to Whistler Blackcomb the group stopped off at Britannia Mine Museum which takes guests on a train into the mines to show what conditions were like in the early 20th century.

Once at Whistler, it was time to get mountain high. The Peak 2 Peak gondola rides link Whistler to Blackcomb over a deep gorge and is the longest free-standing gondola traverse in the world.

The next day brought another gondola ride – this time in a town called Squamish. Pretty much brand new, having been opened in 2014, the Sea to Sky Gondola is rises 885 metre above sea level and offers panorama views as well as a suspension bridge clients can traipse over,

Another day, another city. This time it is the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, renowned for its harbour.  One of the main selling points for clients is the whale watching tours. At this time of year, sightings of killer whales are pretty much guaranteed thanks to the resident population. There is also the chance to see transient killer whales, humpback whales or minke whales.

The group was lucky enough to see a pod of five resident killer whales with Springtide Tours, two of which swam right up to the edge of the boat.

The group then took off to Butchart Gardens, the most visited attraction in British Columbia. That’s the first of three legs for this trip, stay tuned for further updates.
