Sydney Airport announces new chairman

Trevor Gerber will replace Max Moore-Wilton as the chairman of Sydney Airport Limited, effective in May.

Gerber joined the company’s board in 2002 and has chaired its Audit and Risk committee and has also been on the boards of Westfield and Leighton.

In February, Moore-Wilton said he would retire as chairman and director at the annual general meeting in May.

Gerber joined Sydney Airport’s board as an independent director, and has also served his time as chairman of its audit and risk committee.

“I look forward to working with the management team and leading Sydney Airport through its next phase of growth,” Mr Gerber said in a statement.

But according to the Financial Review, his appointment is subject to shareholders re-electing him as a director at the airport’s annual meeting on May 14.

Moore-Wilton has had a large presence in the spotlight during his time as Sydney Airport’s chairman, holding the title for over 12 years.

He also oversaw the airport’s shake up when it moved from federal government ownership to private hands.

Gerber takes the reigns as discussions over plans for the Badgerys Creek airport continue stir the pot, with Sydney Airport, according to the Financial Review, having the “first right of refusal” to build and operate the new airport 50km west of Sydney’s CBD.
