The mighty Langham re-opens its doors
After a long redevelopment process, The Langham, Sydney has re-emerged from its cocoon as a beautiful butterfly, giving us a sneak peek of what she has to offer.
Australia’s most exclusive five star hotel looks every bit the multi-million dollars that backed its redesign, with general manager Sonia Lefevre saying the results are iconic.
“Sydney is a glamourous city, like Paris, London or New York and we wanted to cater to people who are aspirational about these style of cities” Lefevre said.
“A dramatic arrival experience, mixology with jazz after 5pm, the biggest guestrooms in Sydney, signature terraces with water views, take away picnic boxes, pink bicycles and bespoke maps for local touring, a million dollar Sotheby’s art collection, dog friendly suites, private butler tennis afternoons – all very unique offerings for a Sydney hotel.”
The property is now been completely transformed as the newest hotel under the Hong Kong based Langham Hospitality Group’s portfolio.
Langham Hospitality Group purchased The Langham, Sydney – previously The Observatory Hotel – in 2012 from Orient Express and rebranded in the same year before confirming redesign plans in 2014.
This anticipated redevelopment was executed in four short months – one of the country’s slickest, fastest hotel development projects to date.
GA Design out of London played a critical part in design, with everything created specifically for the hotel, according to GA London’s executive direct Su Ball.
“Langham is such an iconic brand that we wanted to ensure our designs communicated the story of the hotels’ grand history whilst simultaneously reinvigorating the spaces with contemporary design elements combined with sophisticated and classic references,” She said.
“Our hope is that The Langham, Sydney will be recognised as the most luxurious hotel in Australia and be testament to the eminent Langham brand.”
The new property boasts 98 rooms and suites, some with their own private chefs, The Day Spa facilities, Sydney’s #1 Hotel Pool as voted by Wotif travellers, a hand curated art collection by Sotheby’s on the Ground Level, and so much more.
Social Sydney isn’t forgotten either, with new lifestyle market additions such as the Palm Court, which hosts an opulent tea room overlooking the Western Harbour, serving gastronomic cocktails and jazz tunes.

Rooms start from $635 per night.
