Aussie love affair with Bali continues

Aussie love affair with Bali continues
By admin

Aussies have continued their love affair with Bali, with the sunny destination ranking as the top holiday destination for the first six months of 2014.

The latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) from Hotels.com shows Aussie holidays to Bali have jumped up the destination ladder, increasing by 15% in 2013, and taking out New York for top spot in the first half of 2014.

The Hotels.com HPI captures hotel prices in major destinations across the world and is based on bookings made on Hotels.com, comparing data from this year to the same period in 2013, to see the patterns in Aussie travel.

Some cities remained a staple for Australians heading abroad, with Singapore holding rank at third place for the second year in a row. The same can not be said for London, however, with the city slipping from second to fourth place.

US destinations also fell in popularity, largely thanks to a weaker Australian dollar in the first six months of 2014, with Vegas falling five places to ninth spot this year.

LA completely dropped out of the top 10 list this year – the first time in four years according to the Hotels.com HPI.

When it comes to Aussie holidays this year, it seems getting bang for your buck is top priority, with destinations such as Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur making their way onto the top 10 list, at seventh and tenth place, respectively.

Hotel.com regional director for ANZ & Singapore Katherine Cole said this year’s report shows Aussies continuing to be savvy travellers, looking to holiday hotspots that provide the best value for money.

“The latest HPI highlights that Aussies’ love affair with Bali has no sign of waning,” Cole said.

“Bali provides a champagne holiday on a lemonade budget – so it’s a popular choice for Aussies and one which will no doubt continue.”
