The travel and tourism industry got social in The Barossa yesterday as the first day of the SoMeT14AU conference kicked off at the Chateau Tanunda.

Presented by Think! Social Media, an agency passionate about tourism marketing, SoMeT Australia is a conference for the use of Social Media in the Tourism Industry. Some 200 tourism professionals spent the first day sharing ideas, networking and discovering opportunities in social media for destination marketing.

Known as #SoMeT14AU, a hashtag widely used throughout day one as much to rank it in the top 10 trending topics in Australia, the conference is back bigger than ever for its second year running.

Attendees gained valuable insight into a range of tourism destinations and products who used social media at different levels through informative presentations. A constant twitter feed ran on a side screen that proved just how quickly a message can be distribute to an audience.

The evening concluded with a networking dinner at Yalumba Winery where the phones were a constant presence with social media sharing continuing through the night.
