Ken Morrison has stepped down as Tourism and Transport Forum chief executive after just over a year in the role, with the industry body confirming that the announcement of his replacement is imminent.

Morrison joined the industry body in May 2013 and leaves to return to the Property Council of Australia, where he has been appointed chief executive.

Trent Zimmerman has taken on Morrison's responsibilities until the new recruit is in place.

Improved traffic flow in and around Sydney Airport will significantly enhance the visitor experience at Australia’s major international gateway, according to the Tourism and Transport Forum.

The industry body welcomed a joint commitment from the New South Wales Government and Sydney Airport to invest almost $500 million to improve ground transport solutions at the airport.

“For many international visitors, Sydney Airport will be their first impression of Australia and their last experience; we need to put our best foot forward to meet increasing customer expectations and compete with other global destinations,” acting chief executive Trent Zimmerman said.

The Luxperience Thought Leaders’ Forum will bring together a program of industry experts to share their knowledge of luxury and experiential travel with exhibitors and delegates.

Speakers will include Anne Biging of Healing Hotels of the World, Chris Chesak of the Adventure Travel Trade Association and Francesco Galli of Aqua Expeditions.

In addition, Luxperience-commissioned tourism research projects will be presented by Chris Farquaur of Cimigo Research and Dr Eduardo De La Fuente.

“This is a great opportunity for travel agents and tourism operators to broaden their knowledge and find new solutions to cater for the fast-evolving luxury travel market,” Luxperience chief executive Lindy Andrews said.

The forum will take place in Sydney from August 31 to September 3.

The World Youth Student and Educational Travel Confederation has partnered with Emirates to offer a limited number of sponsored delegate registrations and free Emirates flights for buyers attending WYSTC 2014 in Dublin this September.

Trafalgar has guaranteed all of its 2014 Europe and Britain departures between now and October and is offering savings of up to $700 per couple on September departures along with an additional 3% bonus commission.
