Midweek Interview with Tony Carter, Managing Director, Amadeus IT Pacific
By admin

The challenge for the industry is… Making Australia and New Zealand the number one destination for the boom that is about to come from some of the Asian countries, in particular China.

The things I like about my job are… The people.  I work with incredible people at Amadeus and our customers are passionate and successful.

And the frustrations… Our over reliance on emails!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be… Pit crew for the Ducati team in the MotoGP.

Qantas or Virgin? Both are excellent airlines for different reasons. Qantas was the first airline to sign and implement Amadeus Alt√©a®, so we have a lot of history.

My proudest moment was… When my daughters were born.  I don't mind admitting I shed a tear each time.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Not sure it is the naughtiest thing I have ever done, but I once called a friend's mobile while watching him give a speech, and he hadn’t put his phone on silent!

I try to relax by… I love watching live sport, and having a hit of golf.  A good red wine is a good choice too.

The last time I feared for my life… Was when I told the Amadeus staff in the Sydney office that I support Queensland in the State of Origin.  Go the Maroons!

If I can, I always try to avoid… Scary movies.

I really wish I had… The secret to time travel. It’s not yet part of Amadeus portfolio solutions but maybe one day as we shape the future of travel with our industry partners.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… Always double check the distribution list before you press send on an email.  It is very easy to send emails to the wrong people.

I don’t understand why… The Brisbane Lions are bottom of the ladder this year 🙁

My greatest weakness is… A complete lack of handy man skills.

And my greatest strength… I think I am pretty good at seeing the forest for the trees.

If I was prime minister I would… Get rid of the corrupt and immoral politicians who seem to be in the news all too frequently these days.

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would… Buy a place beside the golf course at Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… A famous musician.  I sadly have no musical ability at all.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Petra in Jordan to see the buildings carved into the rock.  I imagine it would be like nothing I have ever seen before.

My favourite holiday was… A family trip to Italy, in particular Venice.  What a sensational place.
