APT christens new ship AmaReina

APT's new river cruise ship AmaReina has been christened in Germany by Princess Heide von Hohenzollern.

The christening in Volshofen was attended by APT owner Geoff McGeary, APT CEO Chris Hall and 41 Australian and New Zealand trade professionals.

“When I met my godchild four days ago can you imagine this beauty is still very young but amazingly mature,”AmaReina godmother Princess Heide von Hohenzollern said.

MS AmaReina is a 164 passenger vessel with twin balcony suites, a wine room, heated sundeck pool and the Erlebnis Chef’s Table restaurant where guests can watch their food prepared.

The 135 metre long ship cost 25 million euros and took two years to build.

McGeary was consulted on the design of the ship and said he is responsible for the twin balcony room configuration.

MS AmaVista and MS AmaSerena will launch in 2015 and the concerto class ships will be similar in design to the MS AmaReina.

River cruise expansion possibilities are endless due to the way the ships can raft up several across at river ports, McGeary said.

APT will launch two more river cruise vessels on European waterways in 2016.

The christening ceremony included traditional Bavarian dancing by local children as well as a gun salute as the ship pulled into port.
