Travel-inspired doughnuts on menu for Geckos

Geckos Adventures has launched a competition to find the most delicious doughnut flavour, inspired by one of its travel destinations, with the winner to see their recipe become a reality and bag a free trip of their choice at the same time.

The Geckos Global Doughnut Hunt will see one supreme destination-based doughtnut topping brought to life by Melbourne’s Doughboys Doughnuts with the public invited to give it a try at a special doughnut launch event.

General manager Steve Wroe, pictured showing down on one of the sweet treats, said the competition is a great fit for its target audience and for the company’s down to earth approach.

"Fancy hotels commission fancy chefs to make fancy food for fancy people, and since 1999 we've been looking for a way to tie Geckos’ love of travel in with our love of non-fancy food,” he said.

“When Doughboys came to town it was as if the stars had aligned. This is probably the best idea we've ever had.”

Entrants must explain what their culture-infused doughnut topping is and which country inspired its creation. Doughbuys Doughnuts will then select a winner and will get baking, with the results to be served up for free at The Mercat in Melbourne on April 9 from 5pm.

The competition is open to Australian residents only and if the winner doesn’t reside in Melbourne then Geckos will fly them out to attend the event, with one night’s accommodation thrown in too.

The competition closes on March 26 at 5pm with the winner to be announced on April 1 on the Geckos blog. Enter the competition here.
