Tourism Fiji to leverage brand

Tourism Fiji will work ‘as closely as possible’ with Fiji Airways, the rebranded Air Pacific which will be fully launched in June.

“We all know that Fiji is a world class destination and now we will have a world class product,” Tourism Fiji CEO Rick Hamilton said.

Hamilton told Travel Today at the inaugural flight from Brisbane last week that the relationship between the tourism board and the airline is “absolutely crucial.”

“It’s an important international carrier and they probably bring about 70% of inbounds into Fiji,” he said.

The tourism body wants to build a closer relationship with the Australian trade and will introduce state sales managers to engage with agents.

“They have a direct influence and the last influence over where a client will go so I think for us, it is about how we personalise that relationship with the trade,” Hamilton said.

Tourism Fiji is also targeting consumers with the launch of a new website last Friday, Fiji.travel, which gives consumers direct access to hotels and agents.

“It’s very exciting and highly visual and it gives consumers the ability to pick and choose product from the website, drop and drag it across and email it or facebook it,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton told Travel Today that emerging markets are a priority for the tourism board and they will work in conjunction to target markets linked to Air Pacific’s flight routes.

“Vladivostok is only 2 hours from Seoul and it really is quite an emerging market, separate from Western Europe,” Hamilton said.

Tourism Fiji is investing in China and said that it will become a very important growth market. “Next year we are looking at bring in a regional director into Hong Kong,” Hamilton said.
