Etihad, Air Canada strike codeshare deal

Etihad, Air Canada strike codeshare deal
By admin

Etihad has confirmed its intention to codeshare on services with Air Canada, as the Abu Dhabi-based carrier also revealed its equity alliance partner, Air Seychelles, will begin to codeshare with South African Airways.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Etihad and Air Canada represents a deepening of their existing interline agreement. They aim to implement reciprocal codeshare services to Etihad's Abu Dhabi hub and select points in North America via its Toronto Hub from the third quarter of 2013, subject to regulatory approval.

Etihad president and chief executive, James Hogan, described it as a "significant development" in the relationship between the two airlines and expected it to "greatly enhance" both business and leisure travel between the UAE and Canada.

Meanwhile, Etihad also announced that its equity alliance partner Air Seychelles, in which it holds a 40% stake, will begin a codeshare arrangement with South African Airways.

The first phase of the deal will see SAA place its code on Air Seychelles services between Johannesburg and the Seychelles, and, subject to approval, on services between Mahe and Praslin.

The carriers will then look at expanding this relationship down the line to see Air Seychelles code placed on SAA services between Johannesburg and destinations across South Africa.

Ticket sales will open on April 29 for travel from April 30.
