DoubleTree moves Australian debut forward
By admin

Hilton's DoubleTree brand will make its Australian debut in the Northern Territory as the firm assumed management of the four BG Group Hotels formerly managed by IHG.

The management agreement, effective from May 1, marks Hilton's entry into the NT. It brings forward the Australian launch of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Australia which had been expected to debut with its new Karratha property, slated to open in mid-2014.

Hilton Darwin, DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin, DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin and DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs are all currently operating and subject to conversion works.

The signing of the four hotels take Hilton's portfolio of BG Group properties to five.

Hilton has operated its North Queensland property, Hilton Cairns, for several years with BG Group owner, Ludvik Berger, describing the relationship as "successful".

"Due to the success of this property, it made a great deal of sense for Hilton Worldwide to manage four more of our properties in the Northern Territory," he said.

He insisted the transition would be "seamless" with "little or no" interruption to operations.

Meanwhile, Hilton president Asia Pacific, Martin Rinck, described the new additions as "important".

"We have been looking to enter into the Northern Territory for some time," he said.
