Mobile trend set to accelerate

Airlines are expecting the web and mobile phone to be the top two sales channels within three years, according to a new study.

SITA's Flying into the Future report revealed an aviation world becoming increasingly mobile with 90% of airlines and airports set to have smart phone apps by 2015 to improve customer service.

A similar number will offer mobile check in as passengers seek "more control" in the booking and check-in process.

"Passenger needs and preferences are changing," SITA director market insight Nigel Pickford said. "Today's passengers want more control throughout their journey. They expect transformation in both the kinds of services airlines and airports offer, and the way they communicate with them.

"At the same time the industry is investing in business intelligence solutions and collaborating more to increase operational efficiency and improve customer service and loyalty."
