Virgin Cruises complete Branson travel trifecta
By admin

Richard Branson will expand his travel products from land and sky to the high seas after announcing plans to operate cruise ships under the Virgin brand.

Already operating planes, trains and even his own spacecraft, Branson has outlined plans to operate two ships after opening a new company, based in the US cruise-hub of Florida.

According to a Bloomberg report, Branson has employed Tom McAlpin, former president of The World Residences and Disney Cruise Line, to oversee operations and Bain Capital will become a partner of Virgin to develop the cruise product.

Branson said he aims to “shake up the cruise industry,” Bloomberg reports, but declined to comment on exactly when the ships will be built and take to the seas.

“There is a unique opportunity here to help build the next great cruise line,” Bain Capital Managing Director Stephen Pagliuca said in the statement, the paper reports.

“Virgin Cruises will help reshape consumers’ expectations.”
