Virgin Australia prepares response to Qantas’ booking flexibility flex

Adelaide, Australia - 1 Feb 2021:
Amid the COVID-19 influence and the 5-days lockdown in Perth, Australia's airline industry is still recovering but under the huge impact. There are very few people at the Virgin airline counter to check-in.

Virgin Australia is expected to announce it will match Qantas’ new flexible booking policy in the coming days.

Having become the first Aussie airline to offer booking flexibility for travel until 30 June 2021 just last month, Travel Weekly understands Virgin will soon be waiving change and cancel fees for travel up to 31 January 2022 when a booking is made by 30 April 2021.

Virgin is also extending its ‘Let the Good Times Fly’ sale, which was due to end overnight, until midnight (AEST) on Monday 15 February 2021. The sale fares are available for select travel dates and destinations from 21 April 2021 until 15 September 2021.

The moves come shortly after arch rival Qantas updated its ‘Fly Flexible’ policy and launched a nationwide domestic fare sale.

The flying kangaroo also announced some improvements to its premium full-service offering on board.

Thought the Qantas-Virgin rivalry was beginning to resemble a friendly exhibition match rather than a grand final heading into extra time? Well, it appears the competitive spirit is still alive and well.
