Agoda has released travel data that indicates Aussie’s love for Asia has deepened with cities from the area taking out all positions in the top ten most popular destinations for Australian tourists this year.

Where once Bali beaches and Bintangs were the big attraction for Australians, our love of Asia has extended far beyond the ‘island of gods’.

The cosmopolitan cities of Singapore and Tokyo are luring Aussie families with their attractions, along with the Thai destinations of Phuket and metropolis of Bangkok rounding out the top five.

With Australians experiencing recent consecutive interest rate rises and cost of living hikes, Asia’s proximity and renowned value is proving irresistible for families eager to reconnect on holiday.

“Australians’ curiosity for all things Asia has reached new heights as we increasingly recognise the region’s diversity and value,” country director, Agoda Oceania, Zsuzsanna Janos, said.

“After stepping off a short flight from Australia to anywhere in Asia, families feel immediately immersed in a rich sensory experience that they simply don’t have at home. That’s the powerful drawcard Asia has – it’s close but feels a world away.”

Agoda’s Family Travel Trend Survey, which polled over 14,000 family travellers from 12 markets globally, found the top three family attractions for Australians were visiting landmarks, spending time outdoors and basking on picturesque beaches, no wonder Asia is so appealing to family travellers.
