Industry to play key role in global tourism push
By admin

Industry is being urged to participate in Tourism Australia’s newest global campaign which aims to highlight Australia’s coastal and aquatic environments.

Tourism Australia’s $40m global push will showcase the country’s “world-class” marine attractions internationally, from reef environments and marine wildlife to beaches and tropical islands.

To support the campaign, tourism operators are being asked to submit photographic, video, film and social media content to Tourism Australia. The best examples will be curated and will feature in the multi-platform campaign which will be rolled out to key markets early next year.

“Research shows our marine environments are one of the main reasons international tourists choose to visit Australia but we face growing competition from destinations like South Africa and the United States,” minister for tourism senator Richard Colbeck said.

“The campaign builds on the government’s targeted efforts to meet the 2020 growth targets and the evidence is that our efforts are already paying dividends.”

A major new documentary about the Great Barrier Reef presented by Sir David Attenborough will reinforce the campaign’s message, he added.

“Marine environments have always played an important role in Australia’s international marketing, but now they will take centre stage with the documentary bringing the beauty of the reef to the world.”
