Garuda Indonesia reopens direct Jakarta-Melbourne route

Commencing 23 November 2022, Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will resume its Jakarta-Melbourne flights to the Victorian capital.

The decision to recommence the flight is to accommodate the market demand for international corporate and leisure travel, particularly in Australia following its decision to relax the travel restrictions.

Garuda Indonesia will operate the twice-weekly service using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a capacity of 251 passengers, consisting of 36 business class and 215 economy class seats.

Garuda Indonesia’s president & CEO, Irfan Setiaputra said: “The re-opening of the Melbourne service is one of Garuda Indonesia’s efforts to optimise the momentum of the national economic recovery, especially through the tourism sector.

“Positioning Jakarta as the hub, the route is not only accommodating the demand of more diverse connectivity throughout the archipelago but also providing seamless connections to other popular Indonesian destinations such as Denpasar, Yogyakarta, Lombok, Kualanamu and Surabaya.”

Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport chief of aviation, said: “Indonesia is a priority market for Melbourne Airport. The resumption of Garuda Indonesia services to Jakarta and onward to Bali will give the opportunity for Victorians to explore and enjoy more Indonesian destinations.

“As Australia’s largest neighbour, the non-stop service to Jakarta will benefit not only Australians and Indonesians holidaying and visiting family and friends, but will also boost trade between the regions, including among the education market.”

GA716 will depart Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 21:00hrs LT, arriving into Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport at 07:35hrs LT, the next morning.

The return flight GA717 will depart Melbourne at 09:10hrs LT every Thursday and Sunday, arriving back in Jakarta at 12:15hrs LT in time for connecting flights to other destinations.
