Cook Islands hot this winter

The Cook Islands are heating up this winter with visitor numbers on the rise and some exciting updates for the industry.

Cook Islands Tourism has seen a 14 percent increase in Australian travellers in this financial year, up 31 percent for the calendar year.

Earlier in the year, Cook Islands Tourism launched the new brand identity using the tagline “Love a little paradise” aimed to differentiate the idyllic South Pacific nation from its key competitors and raise awareness in the Australian market.

Cook Islands Tourism Corporation, general manager Kerryn Cook said since launching the “Love a little paradise” campaign, “we couldn’t be happier to see our visitor numbers increase month after month.”

“It reinforces to us that our strategies and trade initiatives are on track. We’re working closely with our trade partners so it’s thanks to them that Australians are recognising and choosing the Cook Islands for their island escape.”

Australian travellers to the Cook Islands can now start their weekend early as Air New Zealand announces a new flight schedule on their direct flight from Sydney to Rarotonga.

From 3 November 2016, direct services will now depart Sydney on a Friday, arriving into Rarotonga on Friday mornings (services previously departed Sydney on a Saturday). Return direct flights will then depart Rarotonga on a Thursday, arriving into Sydney on a Friday evening (services previously on Saturday evenings). All flight arrival and departure times will remain the same.

The change in flight schedule now allows paradise seekers to start their holiday at the start of the weekend, arriving on early Friday morning.

“The new flight schedule is a welcome change for Australian visitors to our little paradise,” says Cook. “It was already a great selling point to have the flight arrive first thing on Saturday morning. Now arriving the day before, travellers have more time to get onto ‘Island Time’ for the weekend activities ahead.”
