Trans-Tasman alliance gets final thumbs up
By admin

Both Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia have committed to enhancing their trans-Tasman alliance as New Zealand’s Minister of Transport gave final approval to the extension of the deal to 2018.

The reauthorisation of the alliance will enable the airlines to continue to deliver “substantial benefits” to those travelling across the Tasman, according to Virgin general counsel Adam Thatcher.

“We look forward to working together with Air New Zealand to enhance our alliance even further, offering competitive airfares, choice and a seamless travel experience for customers,” he said.

Air NZ chief strategy, networks and alliances offer Stephen Jones highlighted the benefits already delivered by the alliance over the last three years such as lower fares.

“The reauthorisation will enable us to continue to further improve the trans-Tasman customer experience as we realize greater efficiencies, opportunities and cost savings,” he said.

The alliance, operational since July 2011, connects 35 Australian destinations with 26 in New Zealand.
