Singapore Airlines, Tata to launch new Indian carrier
By admin

A new full service Indian airline will take to the skies under a deal between Singapore Airlines and Tata sons, expected to further fuel local demand for air travel.

Tata Sons will own 51% of the New Delhi-based carrier while Singapore Airlines will hold 49%, subject to Foreign Investment Promotion Board and other regulatory approvals.

“We have always been a strong believer in the growth potential of India’s aviation sector and are excited about the opportunity to partner Tata Sons in contributing to the future expansion of the market,” Singapore chief executive Goh Choon Phong said.

“With the recent liberalization, the time is right to jointly bring consumers a fresh new option for full-service air travel.”

Meanwhile, the Tata-nominated chairman of the new joint venture, Prasad Menon, promised the new carrier would be “world-class” and welcomed the opportunity to partner with Singapore Airlines.

More details will be revealed “in due course”.
