Tour operators extend savings to singles

Solo getaways are becoming an increasingly popular form of travel, with more people than ever looking for holidays with some savings for the singles.

Whether it’s young travellers, adventure-seekers or older singles, more tour operators are becoming aware of the need to cater for this market.

Trafalgar, Insight Vacations and Uniworld have each produced a number of discounts to make solo travel easier, offering a range of benefits and savings on group holidays for those travelling alone.

Trafalgar is first off the mark, offering single discounts of between 50 and 100% on the standard single supplement on a range of departures.

From the new 2015 Europe & Britain program, 17 guided holidays are available for single travel discounts, with examples like the 11-day Italy Bellissimo tour, which offers solo guests $750 savings on travel between April 11 and October 17 2015, on top of the 10% early payment discount.

In 2015, Insight Vacations is taking upwards of 33% off the single supplement, with savings extended across 10 popular itineraries.

“This year, we’ve seen a surge of solo travellers booking our Easy Pace itineraries,” Insight Vacations’ managing director Joost Timmer said.

“These trips have a minimum of three nights in each destination allowing guests plenty of free time to explore their own interests while enjoying the camaraderie and friendships forged while participating in Signature Events such as Celebration Dinners.”

A single supplement saving of $340 is available on select departure dates for the Easy Pace Budapest, Vienna & Prague tour.

Finally, Uniworld is also giving solo travellers the chance to head abroad for less, offering solo supplement waivers on selected cruise tours.

The savings are applicable on a range of European itineraries and departures, with general manager John Molinaro citing positive customer feedback as a key reason for keeping the supplements alive.
