RCI launches Instafilmfest

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has launched the world’s first instagram film festival to make the general public the "hero" of their marketing campaign.

The film festival builds on the“designed for WOW” brand that the cruise liner launched this month.

"This campaign is about making our guests and the general public the hero.. inspiring them to show us their wow moments," RCI commercial director Adam Armstrong said.

Launched at an event at the Sydney Opera House last night, the venue was chosen as it is the most photographed icon on instagram in Sydney.

"150 million use instagram every month, about a million of those are Australian. It is the fastest growing social media platform in the country," Armstrong said.

“When we heard about Instagram’s new video function, we realised that this was a perfect opportunity to do something fun.”

Australians and New Zealanders are able to upload 15 seconds of "wow" under the hashtag #instafilmfest on instagram.

A judging panel will decide who fits the criteria and the winner will receive a Pacific Islands cruise.

“Royal Caribbean has a huge online community – fans love connecting and sharing their experiences with us and each other through social media,” Armstrong added.
