Rail Plus has added packaged Australian rail tours to its range of product, citing demand from travel agents as behind the move.

Although the company has previously sold tickets for The Ghan and The Indian Pacific, packages have not been featured. However, now it is offering five packages, each combining a rail journey with accommodation, meals and sightseeing excursions.

“Travel agents can now sell Great Southern Rail’s five most popular, fully-commissionable domestic rail packages using Rail Plus’ familiar and reliable booking channels,” national sales and marketing manager Greg McCallum said.

Garuda Indonesia has upped baggage allowances per passenger across its entire global network in a bid to improve the passenger experience.

From November, all adult and child passengers will receive an additional 10kg across all classes, taking economy to 30kg, business to 40kg and first to 50kg.

“While this allowance has been available for our Australian passengers for a number of months, it is important that we offer the same allowance across our whole network,” the airline’s newly appointed vice president Australia/South West Pacific, Uun Setiawan, said.

Enhancements to Jetstar’s carry-on baggage policy will allow travellers to take a wider range of musical instruments on board the low cost carrier’s flights, following a review by head of customer strategy Cath Stone.

Under the new policy, musicians can carry-on instruments smaller than 85cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth), which weigh less than 10kg. This means instruments such as trumpets, violins and clarinets can be stowed in overhead lockers instead of in the cargo-hold.
