Midweek Interview with Raelene Prosser, Sabre Pacific Training Manager, Australia & New Zealand

The challenge for the industry is… It’s only one, but being able to compliment ourselves on how good we really are at what we do.  The AU/NZ travel industry is heavily populated with incredibly talented, forward-thinking individuals.  It’s a pleasure and a privilege to work amongst this sector.

The things I like about my job are… The light-bulb moments, when someone “gets it” or understands how it relates to their role in the business.

And the frustrations… The lack of monetary reward for the fabulous consultants in our incredibly sophisticated industry.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be a…  Lady of leisure.  I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Qantas or Virgin?…  Split allegiance, though I have to say I’ve been enjoying the Qantas direct flights to Dallas Fort Worth the past couple of years.

My proudest moment was  is, making a difference.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Hmmm, there was that time….. But, then again, I really shouldn’t share.

I relax by… Collapsing in my second home – Fulton, Mississippi.  Eighteen miles down the road from Elvis Presley’s birthplace – Tupelo.

The last time I feared for my life…  Was seeing the deer in the headlights (literally), when I was driving up a country road in Northern Victoria, in Man from Snowy River country.

If I can, I always try to avoid… Getting up in the darkest hour prior to dawn.

I really wish I had…  A way to transplant my scattered family and friends into one place, all at the one time!

The best advice I’ve ever received was…  Live your own life, no-one else will do it for you.  (Thanks Dad!)

I don’t understand why…  The Blind Side didn’t win more Oscars.  A great movie about heart, compassion, American football and filled with all those Southern references.

My greatest weakness is…  A good, single malt Scotch.

And my greatest strength…  Is being able to drink lots of good, single malt Scotch.

If I was prime minister I would…  Encourage all sides of the political spectrum to try to work together to improve an already great country.  Imagine if we could have all those intellects working together, instead of finding new ways to insult and nit-pick at each other!

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would…  Be boring, but very happy!  Pay off the families mortgages and jump on a plane to Fulton, MS.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be…  Someone that could travel all the time.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…  The list is endless.  Places I haven’t visited yet: Central Mexico; Peru; Alaska; Bermuda; Japan in Winter; Galapagos.  And the places I really want to revisit:  Egypt; Jordan; Scotland; Easter Island; Tahiti, the Gulf Coast between Pensacola and Panama City Beach, FL: New York City, London and Paris.

My favourite holiday was…  The next holiday is always my favourite.
