Air Pacific has confirmed it will reduce commission payable to agents from 5% to 3% with immediate effect, following a review of distribution channels and costs.

Regional general manager Australia, Andrew Stanbury, confirmed the retail commission adjustment would be effective on all sales from April 1.

"We thank all of our trade partners for their continued support and understanding in this matter," he said.

"We are excited about the journey ahead as we transition from Air Pacific to Fiji Airways in June 2013 and we will continue to work closely with out trade and tourism industry partners."

Today, the airline flies its first commercial flight using its new A330 aircraft from Auckland to Nadi, with the aircraft to make its Australian debut in Brisbane later this month. It will fly there five times a week until July.

Sydney A330 flights will start in June, with Melbourne to follow in December,
