JTG set for crucial conference

JTG set for crucial conference
By admin

Agents from Jetset Travelworld Group will gather in Melbourne this weekend for its owner/managers conference, the first time it has ever brought together retail staff from across its networks.

It is also likely to be one of the last times this happens.

Unless something goes terribly wrong, next year will see a Helloworld conference. That much is clear. What is less so, is how many delegates will be in attendance.

JTG will, quite obviously, view the next two or three days as an ideal recruitment opportunity, a chance to convince wavering Jetset, Travelworld, Travelscene American Express and Harvey World Travel agents that Helloworld is the right way forward.

Chief executive Rob Gurney will take to the podium with a clear message; Helloworld is the future of JTG and the only solution to its fragmented retail structure.

So far, JTG has signed 100 Helloworld locations, with an update of those numbers expected in Melbourne. A Helloworld shop fit-out will also be on display to give agents a taste of what they can expect by moving to the brand.

It is clear from talking to agents in the field that many have yet to make a decision – for a variety of reasons – and many of those will be in the Victorian capital this weekend.

Issues remain, “location adjacency” being one of them where JTG shops who want the full branding are too close together, while the strict nature of the franchise agreement is also a barrier, particularly among Jetset and Travelworld agents whose current franchise agreements are fairly loose.

Whether these wavering agents arrive back at their desks on Monday morning having made a clear decision of whether to take the plunge or cut and run is debatable.

But with 900 agents said to be attending the conference, this will be an important weekend for JTG and Helloworld.
