Cosmos expands Asia program

Cosmos expands Asia program

Cosmos has reported record growth for their Asia program with this year’s business doubling that of 2012.

The Asia product has run for three years and the 2014 program aims to generate volume through competitive pricing.

“2012 was a record year for us at the time and 2013 has surpassed that,” Cosmos marketing manager Christian Schweitzer said.

“The upshot of that is our retail and distribution partners have been able to generate a lot more income and we’ve been able to operate a lot more tours.”

The Australian market contributes 28% to global Cosmos business, up from a 15% contribution in 2012.

“We are really stoked that we are getting that amount of business solely out of the Australian market,” Schweitzer said.

Out of the Asia itineraries, Schweitzer said China was the clear winner with 56% of Australian bookings for 2013  on a Cosmos China product.

“In some instances our groups are made up entirely by Australians which reflects the fact that we have a strong affinity with Asia,” Schweitzer said.

The tour operator will add capacity for China in 2014 as well as release a new seven-day tour called China’s cities of contrast.

Cosmos has also added five to seven day beach extensions to Koh Samui, Phuket and Goa.

“We all know that the flop and drop market is pretty big out of Australia to Thailand so we wanted to… achieve flop and drop and add in some culture.”

The 2014 brochure also includes a 11-day Grand Tour of Sri Lanka itinerary.

The Myanmar product launched last year has struggled with accommodation availability and does not appear in the 2014 brochure.

“This market has excellent potential for future growth,” Schweitzer added.
