Emirates commits to Australia at Melbourne Cup Carnival

Emirates has closed the end of the Melbourne Cup carnival at its German themed marquee on Saturday.

The airline sponsors Emirates Stakes Day and says their support of the race day reflects their commitment to the Australian market.

“Emirates has been the title sponsor of Emirates Stakes Day since 1998 and is proud to play such an integral and ongoing role in what is a wonderful day for the whole family,” Emirates Australasia vice president Rob Gurney said.

Celebrities and sports stars filled the birdcage marquee and were treated to Mumm champagne and German dishes while entertainment was provided on the hour by a four-piece German dance troupe dressed in lederhosen and dirndl’s.

The airline is keen to promote their services to Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf.

“We’ve seen world-class racing and first class hospitality in our German themed marquee. I’m sure everyone will agree 2014 has surpassed all expectations and will go down in the books as one of the best spring carnivals yet,” Gurney said.

Special guests included Olympic swimmer Michael Klim, his wife and Balinese princess Lindy Klim, X-Factor's Jason Heerah, Australian basketballer Liz Cambage, Winners and Losers' Melanie Vallejo, Neighbours' Olympia Valance, Chris Milligan and Jenna Rosenow, former Geelong player Billy Brownless and Miss Universe Olivia Wells.

Jockey Dom Tourneur took out the million-dollar Emirates Stakes race riding Hucklebuck as well as the last race of the Carnival in the Emirates Airline Handicap on Éclair Big Bang.

Emirates Stakes Day is traditionally a family affair and the Fashions on the Field were judged by Family Ambassadors Jason Heerah with wife Kath and their children, Koby and Kayla.

Guests were indulged with spa treatments from staff of Emirates Wolgan Valley Spa and Resort while make-up touch ups were provided by Lancome.
