Cathay ‚Äúreassured” by pax increase
Cathay Pacific said it is "reassured" at a slight rise in passenger numbers in the first two months of the year with traffic "robust" over the Chinese New Year holiday period.
Combined carryings of Cathay and its Dragonair subsidiary climbed 10.5% to 2.34 million in February with loads rising 6.3 percentage points to almost 81%.
But the picture was distorted as the Chinese New Year fell in February this year, Cathay admitted.
"Comparing the first two months of the year combined gives us a truer picture of our performance and it is reassuring to see a small increase [0.8%] in passenger numbers despite a significant drop in capacity," general manager revenue management James Tong said.
Demand in premium cabins was in line with expectations.
