Evacuation slide falls from United Airlines aircraft over Chicago
Edited by Travel Weekly

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an incident involving a United Airlines Boeing 767 where an evacuation slide appears to have fallen from the aircraft as it flew into Chicago.

The 767-300 was operating United Airlines Flight 12 from Zurich, Switzerland to Chicago and was descending when the incident happened.

CCTV footage from near where the slide landed appears to show the object falling from the sky moments after the aircraft passes by.

Police responded to the incident after 911 calls reported a loud bang and an object falling from the sky.

“We immediately contacted the FAA and are working with our team to better understand the circumstances around this matter,” United said.

None of the 155 passengers and 10 crew onboard were injured during the incident.
