Virgin Australia CEO raises money for charity following late husband’s cancer battle

Virgin Australia’s CEO Jayne Hrdlicka has raised more than $20,000 for cancer research following the passing of her late husband Jason Gaudin.

Gaudin passed away a few weeks ago following a long battle with a rare form of cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2019 and lived past doctor’s expectations by several years, according to Hrdlicka’s initial announcement of his death.

Hrdlicka took to LinkedIn to thank those who sent their condolences and asked those who wished to honour his memory to donate to Cancer Council Queensland.

“The boys and I are very grateful for your kind words and thoughts,” Hrdlicka wrote.

A number of people have asked about honouring Jason’s memory. We have set up the following page in tribute to Jason, for anyone who would like to help advance cancer research.”

Within the donation, $5,000 was given by Tennis Australia and Sabre, over $1,000 came from Brisbane Airport and another $1,000 came from United Airlines. Others who pitched in included friends, colleagues and others impacted by cancer.

“I deeply appreciate the heartfelt support and compassion from so many over the last couple of years as Jason and I worked our way through his various treatment phases and challenges,” Hrdlicka wrote on the donations site.

“His strength, incredibly positive attitude and passion for his boys enabled him to live years beyond the expectations of his doctors. For that we are blessed and grateful.”

Following the death of Gaudin, the Virgin Australia CEO announced that she would take some time off.

“For the next few weeks, I will be taking leave to spend time with family,” she wrote on LinkedIn.
