Bonza’s new Melbourne-Tamworth route connects Victorians and the Country Music Capital
Bonza has launched its Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Tamworth route today to connect Australia’s Country Music Capital with its Cuisine Capital.
The route will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays with fares starting from $59 per person (one way).
On Saturday, 6 May the tempo picks up again with the launch of the Tamworth to Sunshine Coast route from $49 per person (one way), which from the week commencing 14 May will also operate on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Bonza CEO Tim Jordan greeted customers as they touched down at Tamworth Regional Airport including members of the country music and line dancing communities in Melbourne. Also onboard today was Golden Guitar Winner Lachlan Bryan, who performed for passengers.
“We are thrilled to launch our first ever flight to Tamworth today from our second base at Melbourne Tullamarine. From today, Aussies living in the New England region can take advantage of low-cost flights to Melbourne for their favourite sporting events, theatre shows and food adventures,” said Jordan.
“Melbournians can now explore Australia’s backyard with a country NSW experience including Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, the Big Golden Guitar, art galleries and museums. From Tamworth, travellers can take in the wide open spaces of the New England region including World-Heritage listed National Parks.”
Customers and guests onboard the historic flight were greeted by the local community including country music star and Bonza Local Legend Ashleigh Dallas.
Tamworth region mayor Russell Webb said these new services to Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast would be a huge win for the community.
“The flights will create a significant link for all travellers including those on business trips, locals planning their next holiday and will create more opportunity to welcome additional tourism to our region from new markets,” said mayor Webb.
“We are very pleased to welcome a low-cost carrier like Bonza to the region – increasing our connectivity.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus who said the new route was part of an exciting new chapter for Melbourne Airport.
“This is the first time Melbourne Airport has had a direct link to Tamworth and these new flights will help connect families, friends, business, tourists and music lovers,” Argus said.
“As Australia’s capital of culture, Melbourne shares a natural connection with the nation’s capital of country music, and we think this new route will strike the right chord with people looking to explore different parts of the country.”
Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app which is the only place to book direct.
