Revealed: What ChatGPT thinks people should do when visiting Sydney.. and it’s not what you might think
AI chat bot technology is taking over. It’s already used by millions of people (they probably don’t even know it). And, it’s only going to get better and more common.
ChatGPT is an open AI website where people can put the technology to the test. So, we did.
Just how much does this mighty large computer know about Sydney? Does it know where people should have breakfast and dinner? Will it know attractions that aren’t the bridge or the Opera House?
We asked the website the following question:
“Create an itinerary for a 5-day visit to Sydney, Australia. Excluding the city’s most popular tourist attractions and including places to have breakfast and dinner.”
Aha! We thought as we pushed send. That line about excluding popular tourist attractions will surely throw the microchips a curve ball. They’ll be shaking in their Intel micro-boots.
Well, we were wrong. Within about two seconds ChatGPT had everything worked out. And, in quite some detail.
Here’s what the software came up with. We would love to hear your feedback on its recommendations, or other things we should ask ChatGPT in our next story.

Here’s a suggested itinerary for a 5-day visit to Sydney that focuses on off-the-beaten-path experiences, with recommendations for breakfast and dinner, according to ChatGPT:
Day 1: Paddington and Potts Point
Start your day with breakfast at Kepos Street Kitchen in Redfern, which serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
Explore the trendy suburb of Paddington, known for its boutique shops, cafes, and Victorian terrace houses.
For dinner, head to The Apollo in Potts Point, which serves modern Greek cuisine using local ingredients.
Day 2: Northern Beaches and Manly
Take a ferry to Manly and spend the day exploring the Northern Beaches, such as Freshwater Beach and Shelly Beach.
For breakfast, try The Boathouse at Shelly Beach, which offers beachside views and a menu of fresh, seasonal dishes.
For dinner, head to Sunset Sabi in Newport, which serves contemporary Japanese cuisine in a relaxed setting.
Day 3: Inner West and Balmain
Explore the eclectic Inner West suburbs of Newtown and Enmore, which are known for their street art, live music venues, and multicultural food scene.
For breakfast, try Cornersmith in Marrickville, which serves house-made pickles, preserves, and seasonal dishes using locally-sourced ingredients.
For dinner, head to One Ford Street in Balmain, which serves innovative European-inspired dishes in a cozy, intimate setting.
Day 4: Eastern Suburbs and Watsons Bay
Spend the day exploring the Eastern Suburbs, including Bronte Beach and the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee.
For breakfast, try Three Blue Ducks in Bronte, which serves organic, locally-sourced dishes with a focus on sustainability.
For dinner, head to Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, which serves seafood and modern Australian cuisine with waterfront views.
Day 5: Inner City and Surry Hills
Explore the historic inner-city suburb of Surry Hills, which is known for its vibrant food scene and trendy bars.
For breakfast, try Reuben Hills, which serves specialty coffee and Latin American-inspired dishes.
For dinner, head to Firedoor, which serves wood-fired dishes using Australian ingredients in a rustic, industrial setting.
(It’s us talking again now. You know, the real humans)
The AI fake human thing ended its braggadocious response with the following farewell.
“I hope this itinerary helps you discover some hidden gems in Sydney and enjoy some delicious breakfast and dinner options!”
