Bonza calls on Aussies to name its first plane

Bonza is calling out for Aussies to help name its plane following the arrival of its first aircraft earlier this month at Sunshine Coast Airport.

The airline said it wants to ‘nick your nickname’ and is calling out for Aussies to comment on the Fly Bonza social media pages with their nicknames. The best ones will be put to a vote by Bonza’s Local Legends – a group of local ambassadors in some of the 17 destinations the airline will fly to.

Comments have been flying in since the aircraft landed on Monday with suggestions including Sunny (short for Sunshine Coast), Purple Rippa, Bonza Bruce, Kimbo,  Barbie, Sheila and Steve (in memory of Sunshine Coast legend Steve Irwin). Other popular suggestions include Mate, Kev, Bazza, Rocky (after one of the Bonza destinations Rockhampton), Beauty and Digger (after our Aussie Diggers).

The arrival of the carriers first aircraft supports Bonza’s ongoing momentum with the regulatory process.

“We are beyond excited to welcome our first aircraft to Sunshine Coast Airport and with so much buzz around the country for Bonza, we hope today is also exciting for the communities we’ll be flying to,” Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza, said.

“Our team of legends have been working hard behind the scenes to reach this significant milestone and so it was important that we were all here to welcome flight AB 001 together.

“We are now one important step closer to connecting more Australians with convenient low-cost travel options to more destinations for holidays and to visit loved ones.”

From here, the aircraft will have its interiors completed on Aussie shores.

“It seems only right that we bring home our first aircraft to have its final touches put on by Australians locally,” added Jordan.

The aircraft that touched down will be used as a spare aircraft, an investment in customer experience and part of Bonza’s strategy to minimise potential disruptions to its customers wherever possible.
