Missing dog found almost three weeks after escaping at Hobart Airport

A little dog named Snoopy has been reunited with his owners after escaping from Qantas freight staff at Hobart Airport.

Snoopy was being handed over to his owner Loreta Choobe after flying from Perth to Tasmania on 2 June when he made a run for it.

According to a post on the Tasmanian Lost Pet Register Facebook page, the two-year-old Maltese mix was on the run for 20 days.

“Snoopy’s family was beside themselves and contacted us to pop a post up and after thousands of shares, there were people everywhere wanting to find Snoopy, he even made the news,” the Facebook group said in a post.

“Poor Snoopy coming from warm Perth to being lost in cold Tassie, it was too awful to think about.

“The whole community was wanting to help. Then along came Lisa who put a plan together and set about capturing Snoopy.”

After several people posted sightings of the adventurous pup to the group, Snoopy was caught in a “dog trap” and is finally safe and sound.

“Snoopy’s family is over the moon,” the group said in a post.

Choobe posted about the family’s search for Snoopy on Lost and Found Pets of Tasmania’s Facebook page.

“The Qantas staff opened the dog crate and our Snoopy was traumatised from the flight from Perth to Hobart, so he bolted and we have no answer,” she said at the time of Snoopy’s disappearance.

“All we got from Qantas is, ‘Sorry, our staff didn’t follow the rules’.”

Choobe said Snoopy is a therapy dog and belongs to her daughter who has special needs.

On 7 June, Qantas said in a statement its Hobart team was doing all they could to assist in finding the dog.

We understand that this is a stressful situation for the owners and we hope that Snoopy is found safe and sound as soon as possible,” the airline said.

When Snoopy was found, on 22 June, the airline said it was “really pleased to hear Snoopy has been found safe”.
