“Bit of a stretch”: Aussie comedian cops billion-dollar charge for extra legroom on Qantas flight

Aussie funnyman Dave O’Neil got a bit of a shock while trying to book extra legroom on a recent Qantas flight.

O’Neil posted a screenshot of his order summary on the Qantas app to Twitter showing a total of $987,999,999.00 for return flights from Melbourne to Perth.

The airline replied to the Tweet remarking that the total did look “slightly” over the normal price and asking O’Neil to direct message so it could take a look.

Other Twitter users took the opportunity to crack a few jokes about the bungle.

“They must have thought you were trying to buy their flee of A380s said @TripApprove.

“But look how much extra legroom you got!” said @ozvascdoc.

“Well ya know, profits must be maintained during these COVID times sooooooo,” said @Sapnkyhunter

A spokesperson for Qantas even made light of the situation when Travel Weekly approached the airline for comment.

While we know that customers really value extra legroom, the price displayed was definitely a bit of a stretch,” the spokesperson said.

“We can confirm the passenger was charged the correct amount of $70 per sector for the extra legroom and we’re investigating what caused the incorrect amount to be displayed.”
