“Boaty McBoatface again?” Azamara asks Twitter to name its new ship

“Boaty McBoatface again?” Azamara asks Twitter to name its new ship

Luxury cruise line Azamara has taken to Twitter in search of a name for its new ship.

And, of course, “Boaty McBoatface” has already been suggested.

“Our new sister ship needs a name! Comment below to help us name the newest member of our fleet,” the line posted to its Twiter account on 6 March.

“Shall we try for Boaty McBoatface again?” said Twitter user @Quirkycdngirl.

The name Boaty McBoatface was the name chosen for a $3.5 million polar research ship by a public vote in 2016, as suggested by BBC Radio reporter James Hand.

However, the decision was overturned and the ship wound up being named RRS Sir David Attenborough.

@Quirkycdngirl quickly followed up her suggestion with a more serious pick.

“Seriously though…Zenith?” she said.

Among the many suggestions for names like Azamara Journey, Azamara Adventure and Azamara Voyage was another comical comment this time from @SerenaMinaGreen.

“My husband has suggested Azamara Princess. I think it’s rubbish, don’t pick it,” she said.

Our personal favourite suggestions are Azamara Mangata (the reflection of the moon on water), Azamara Pheonix and Azamara Chakra 7 (whatever the hell that means).

In January, Azamara’s parent company Royal Caribbean entered into an agreement to sell the brand to private equity firm Sycamore Partners for $261.3 million.

Not long after the announcement was made, the line named Orlando Ashford, former Holland America Line boss, as its incoming executive chairman.
