Life in the time of COVID-19 with Travellers Choice’s Trinity Hastwell

Life in the time of COVID-19 with Travellers Choice’s Trinity Hastwell

We caught up with the owner of Hastwell Travel & Cruise to swap Tiger King conspiracies and drink red wine. You know, just self-isolation things.

What are you reading?

Besides fare sheets? 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson. A timely gift from a friend.

What are you watching?

Are you even isolating if you aren’t watching Tiger King on Netflix?

What are you listening to?

Lots of Spotify. Some people are really clever or have too much time on their hands. Check out the playlist ‘Self Isolation Bangers’ – it gave me a much-needed laugh.

What are you cooking?

If I said lots of healthy food, would you believe me? I’m about to celebrate a birthday in isolation, not that we need an excuse for cake!

How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?

The dog is definitely getting lots of walks. I’ve recently learnt how to share an activity through my Apple Watch, so there’s a little competition happening. It’s great for motivation.

What’s the one thing keeping you sane?

FaceTime and (lots of) wine with family and friends.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?

I’ve been in isolation since returning from the UK, so haven’t been out of my house, but the offers of assistance from family and friends have blown me away.

And on a professional level, the sense of community among the Travellers Choice members has been incredible to be a part of. The sharing of information, offers of help and, most importantly, emotional support through the Facebook group TC Connect has been amazing.

What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?

Things that I thought were so important before really weren’t that important. It’s been a wake-up call to slow down and focus on connections with family and friends.

What’s your advice for others in the travel industry on coping with the crisis?

Stay connected to your industry peers. Check in with each other, laugh together, cry together, have a (lot of) virtual wine together.

We are all going through this together and we will have good days and bad, but we will come out of it stronger on the other side.
