Local, organic and sustainable: How farmers are wooing travellers to the Central Coast

Local, organic and sustainable eating is the way of the future, and no one knows that more than the farmers and producers within the Central Coast hinterland.

Travellers are increasingly seeking out food experiences which are truly unique and authentic to the destination they’re visiting.

There is a desire to understand the origins of the food they are consuming, with the farms within the Central Coast hinterland offering insights into this process.

The final video of Harvest Festival TV, ‘Farmers Story’, seeks to explore the locations that meet these desires and meet the inspiring people behind the farm gate.

From learning how to source local bush tucker at the Australian Wildlife Park in Calga to picking your own seasonal veggies, berries and flowers at The Giving Farm, to experiencing a new generation of farming that is both sustainable, ethical and nourishes the land at The Food Farm, the Central Coast hinterland has an abundance of unique organic farms.

At Grace Springs Farm Tours, visitors can get up close and personal with the animals, cuddle a cow and even help tend the farm. Or, they can learn about the importance of sustainable, organic and nutrient-dense food. There’s also beekeeping demonstrations and egg collecting.

And finally, no food tour of the Central Coast is complete without a trip to Eastcoast Beverages in Kulnura, a family-run farm producing some serious citrus! Visitors can pick their own fruits from the orchards and then settle down to sample some of the fresh juices on offer.

On releasing the final episode of Harvest Festival TV, The Misfits managing director Chloe Noel De Kerbrech said: “It has been such a pleasure working with Central Coast Council on driving and promoting awareness of these incredible local businesses, farmers and producers doing really big things.

“We have a passion for destination marketing and couldn’t think of a better region to be doing it in or partner to be doing it with.”
