Accor shelters Australia in fight against COVID-19
The largest hotel operator in Australia and New Zealand has announced it is providing vital shelter in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
Accor has transformed itself from providing a luxury service to crucial infrastructure, as it works with government authorities and community organisations, making its accommodation and services available to those most in need.
These include frontline health workers, the homeless and disadvantaged, vulnerable families, and returning residents who are required to go into quarantine for 14 days.
Six Senses brings wellness offerings home to people for free
During this time of travel bans and social isolation, Six Senses has turned its focus to bringing more wellness into people’s homes through At Home With Six Senses.
The goal of the new initiative is to provide helpful solutions to support to staff, guests and newbies to the brand through a series of videos, tutorials, articles, and advice that will be shared across Six Senses’ social and digital channels to help improve their mental and physical wellbeing during these challenging times.
From guidance on how to best work from home to daily live meditation sessions and immunity boosting recipes, the brand is utilising in-house experts to offer guidance across their pillars of ‘mindfulness’, ‘eat’, ‘sleep’, ‘move’, ‘live naturally’ and ‘connect’.

IHG reaffirms sustainability credentials with award win
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) was recognised among industry peers and sustainable leaders last week, taking home the ‘Green Hotel Chain of the Year’ accolade in the inaugural Finder Green Awards.
The award recognises IHG’s innovation and success across its entire estate, with Finder measuring all category nominees against broad environmental metrics including greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy usage and waste avoiding landfill.
Vale Michael Hall
Well-known hotelier and consummate ‘mein host’ Michael Hall passed away last week at 80 years old.
During the 1970s and 1980s heydays of Australia’s most famous Sebel Town House hotel, Hall was arguably the country’s leading hotel identity.
As a mentor and educator, Hall was the first chairman of Select Hotels & Resorts International and of the famous Blue Mountains Hotel School.
He was also the first managing director of Mirvac Hotels and, as such, was instrumental in launching the careers of many of Australia’s most successful hoteliers.

With the needs of hotel guests changing in light of the current environment and COVID-19, Event Hospitality & Entertainment’s hotel brands in Australia – Rydges, QT and Atura – have adjusted their offering, with tailored options for guests.
Event hotels are offering seven-, 14- and 21-day ‘Home Away from Home’ long stays to accommodate the new and unique needs of today’s hotel guests.
Home Away from Home long stays include a complimentary room upgrade, late check-out, daily linen and bathroom amenities, a dedicated desk and working space, and complimentary (and fast) WiFi.
Vail Resorts CEO donates $4m to support employees and communities
As individuals and communities contend with the severe impacts of COVID-19, Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz (pictured above) and his wife Elana Amsterdam have announced a donation of more than US$2.5 million ($4 million) to provide immediate support for both Vail Resorts employees and the mountain towns where the company operates.
Katz will donate US$1.5 million ($2.4 million) in immediate emergency relief grants that will benefit more than a dozen local organisations providing critical services in Eagle, Summit and Gunnison counties in Colombia; Park City, Utah; Lake Tahoe, California.; Whistler, B.C.; Vermont; Stevens Pass, Washington; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
An additional US$1 million ($1.6 million) is being donated by Katz to create a new fund within Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise Employee Foundation, which helps the company’s employees respond to unpredictable setbacks, including medical events.
The Fullerton Hotel Sydney helps donate respirators to Royal North Shore Hospital
The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and The Fullerton Hotel Sydney have donated 8,000 N95 respirators to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney to support efforts in combating the novel coronavirus situation.
Established in 1885, Royal North Shore Hospital is a tertiary-teaching hospital for a number of leading universities in New South Wales, and also serves as a trauma centre for the.
The hospital is at the forefront of treating COVID-19 patients and in acute need of medical supplies. The N95 respirators are being delivered to the hospital in two shipments.
Dubai’s hotels light up with hearts during COVID-19 pandemic

Madera Group adopts medical technology to combat COVID-19
Hong Kong’s first hospitality group has partnered with a local technology company to adopt spraying technology to medically disinfect all premises and facilities, aiming to provide clean environment to the guests and staffs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This medical-level disinfection, RAZE Nano-Photocatalyst, has been applied to all of Madera Group’s guestrooms, cafés, facilities, and back offices. The technology works for up to eight hours even without the light.
Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo extends strawberry-themed dessert buffet
One of Japan’s most prestigious international hotels located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has been hosting a special strawberry-themed dessert buffet for three months at its all-day dining restaurant Jurin.
