Flavour of the Week: Etihad’s new media agencies, tour group expands senior leadership team + MORE

Etihad appoints several agencies to global media account

Crossmedia, HYLAND and a number of independent agencies have collaborated to win Etihad Airways global media buying and planning account.

It’s understood that transparent models and everyday accountability for client results were key factor in Etihad’s decision to appoint the independent agencies globally across Europe, Asia and Australia.

Commenting on the win, HYLAND founder Virginia Hyland said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative nature of working side by side with Crossmedia and other agency owners to collectively show our business smarts and pitch on Etihad.

“As business owners, our desire to make a difference to clients is far greater. We are determined to show Etihad that there is a better way.”

The Bob Wood Group expands senior leadership team

Global tour specialists The Bob Wood Group has announced the appointment of two experienced travel professionals to its team.

Lidia Hume has been appointed as the company’s business development manager for sales, and Vikki Rabe has been recruited as its operations development manager.

Based on the Gold Coast, Hume will be responsible for building on the company’s growth, including working closely with trade and industry.

Hume was previously part of the sales opening team of The Ruby Collection on the Gold Coast. Prior to this, she worked as the international marketing manager for Asia and the Middle East for Gold Coast Tourism, and headed up Harbour Town’s tourism team as tourism sales manager.

Also based on the Gold Coast, Rabe will be responsible for driving business and digital projects to solidify The Bob Wood Group’s operations.

Rabe was previously the operations manager at Cruise Traveller on the Gold Coast. Prior to this, she held roles with P&O Cruises, Australian Tourism Data Warehouse and Tourism Queensland.

Ex-Foxtel boss Peter Tonagh joins Village Roadshow

Entertainment and theme parks company Village Roadshow has announced the appointment of Peter Tonagh as a non-executive director.

Tonagh joins Village Roadshow with 25 years of executive experience, including as CEO and chief financial officer of Foxtel, as CEO and chief operating officer of News Corp Australia, and as interim CEO of REA Group.

He is also a former vice president and partner of Boston Consulting Group.

Tonagh will serve on Village Roadshow’s committees for audit and risk, renumeration, and corporate governance and nomination.

City of Melbourne appoints Zenith to handle media account

Melbourne has been rated the second best city in the world by anonymous surveyed participants of the TimeOut Index study.

The City of Melbourne has appointed Zenith to handle its media strategy, planning and buying account following a tender process involving a number of undisclosed agencies.

The Publicis Media-owned agency, which has previously carried out project work for the City of Melbourne, has now secured all campaign media activity.

Zenith Melbourne general manager Megan Kay said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the City of Melbourne as their media agency of record.

“The rich diversity of the city, with its thriving business, tourism, arts and cultural community, makes it an exciting and dynamic brand to work with.”
