Plane passenger shot dead during flight hijacking attempt

A passenger on board a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight has been shot dead while trying to hijack the plane.

The man attempted to enter the plane’s cockpit, and was waving a gun and threatening to blow up the aircraft, which was making its way from Dhaka to Dubai, according to Reuters.

The passenger reportedly said he had a personal issue with his wife and told the pilot he wanted to speak to Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.

An emergency landing was made Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport, allowing Bangladeshi military commandos to storm the plane. After resisting arrest, the male passenger was shot dead.

Officials told Reuters that all 142 passengers and most of the crew had disembarked the plane unharmed, while one crew member was held hostage.
