Jetstar accused of “slut-shaming”, slammed over $50 voucher apology

Sydney, Australia - January 17, 2019: Front section of Jetstar Airbus A320 fuselage while taxiing at Sydney airport runway.

Low-cost airline Jetstar has been outed by an angry passenger who claims she was slut-shamed and then given a $50 voucher as an apology.

After a flight mix-up, Gold Coast woman Shosana Stykert was forced to settle for a flight to Brisbane to get home last week to visit her sick mother in hospital.

However, when Stykert boarded the plane to Brisbane, she claims a Jetstar flight attendant told her that what she was wearing was inappropriate.

According to Stykert, the flight attendant said, “Do you see any men walking around with their shirts off?”. The Jetstar employee then followed up with, “Do you have a T-shirt you can put on, or I will give you a blanket?”

Stykert detailed the incident that left her “embarrassed and shocked” in an explosive post on Facebook on Monday. She also accused Jetstar of “slut-shaming” her and slammed a $50 voucher she was given by the airline in return.

A Jetstar spokesperson told Travel Weekly that the airline had called Strykert to better understand the situation and apologise if she felt that she was treated unfairly by staff.

“We are investigating what happened to find out if the situation could have been handled differently and have passed Ms Strykert’s feedback to our teams,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re sorry that this interaction spoiled Ms Strykert’s journey and have provided a travel voucher as gesture of goodwill.”
