As well as being one of the premier wine regions in the world, France’s Burgundy region is home to the famous Dijon mustard, has nine UNESCO World Heritage sites, dozens of Michelin star restaurants and is the perfect destination for the active traveller.

What more could you want, really?

And, as a select group of travel agents and journalists discovered at a “Breakfast in Burgundy” event hosted by UTracks and Burgundy Tourism today, Dijon mustard is not made in Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, but in the region’s ancient walled town of Beaune.

Dijon, however, is home to the famous Sunday Brunch event held each weekend in the 19th century Les Halles Market, designed by the town’s most famous son, Gustav Eiffel, and full of gastronomical delights including gingerbread, black currants, Charolais beef, truffles and pastries.

“Cycling through vineyards, bike and barging along tree-lined canals, tasting the food and wine or hiking along dedicated walking paths are just some of the many ways to explore this beautiful region, located just over an hour from Paris,” according to UTracks General Manager, Kate Baker.

“If you love France, then you will adore Burgundy!”

Joining Kate Baker at the Breakfast in Burgundy event was Emmanuelle Hézard Hervieu from Burgundy-Franche-Comté Tourism and Françoise Bidot, from Beaune Tourism.

Alison Garland from Journeys Unlimited was the lucky winner of the Breakfast in Burgundy prize package (donated by Burgundy Tourism), which included three night’s accommodation in Burgundy, cultural visits and wine tastings.

UTracks, the active Europe specialist and its sister brand, Sherpa Expeditions, have a number of guided and self-guided, walking, cycling, and bike & barge based itineraries in the Burgundy region.

“The beauty of active travel, whether it’s walking, cycling or a boat-based itinerary, is that training for the trip is a great way to get fit,  you can maintain your fitness while travelling, you can travel at your own pace and you can still sample the local food and wine without putting on the kilos,” Baker said.

The Breakfast in Burgundy event was an opportunity for UTracks to launch the ‘Travel. Be in it.’ campaign promoting active travel experiences which engage travellers in the moment as opposed to the ‘click and tick’ travel experience, where they take the photo and tick the destination off their bucket list with the minimum physical effort required.
