Hotel Review: Dorsett Kuala Lumpur

Hotel Review: Dorsett Kuala Lumpur

The Dorsett, firmly ensconced in the golden triangle of Bukit Bintang, is the perfect place to experience Kuala Lumpur’s diverse multicultural community.

It is also just far enough away to walk back into a peaceful and pleasant oasis.

The hotel, which is part of the WorldHotels Collection portfolio, has a philosophy of “Female Power”,  beautiful design at a reasonable price point and a central location so it is easy to walk everywhere.

The hotel group is based in Hong Kong, and it boasts a majority of women running its operations, including its President Winnie Chiu, one of Hong Kong’s most successful and dynamic women.

We at Travel Weekly reckon that’s a good enough reason to recommend it alone.

First Impression/ Look and Feel on Arrival

The entrance of the hotel has a good high end feel to it, as it has been recently renovated by Wendy Chiu, an accomplished designer and architect.

After a long haul, the most onerous thing is a painfully slow check-in process in most hotels.

Not so, at the Dorsett. We were individually taken to our rooms, asked for a signature and that was it. 10/10 for this traveller.

Location

The Dorsett is located a stone’s throw from the city’s cultural epicentre- Bukit Bintang. There you will wander past colourful rows of hawker stalls, bars, restaurants, and no shortage of excellent people watching.

It’s the place to be, if you are in KL- cosmopolitan, bustling with the striking architecture of the Petronas Towers following you everywhere.

The Rooms

The Dorsett has 322 rooms including 27 suites and has all the mod cons you would expect.

The feel of any hotel room is important because we need to feel comfortable and relaxed as though we were home in our own bedrooms, but balanced with all the additional needs of travelling.

Walking into the Dorsett, I felt immediately relaxed and at ease. The bed and pillows were comfortable, air conditioning can be turned off (a deal breaker for a frequent traveller).

Drinking and Dining

Surprisingly, given Malaysia is a Muslim country, and it is usually difficult to buy wine (although very easy to buy beer) there was a selection of Australian wine to enjoy at the hotel bar.

The Windows lounge was a pleasant spot to enjoy a cocktail and some wine, and for someone who doesn’t drink beer, was a big tick.

Hotel Features

The hotel Highlight was the pool.

Tim Winton’s famous quote “you never regret a swim” is certainly true for a lap along this spectacular infinity pool overlooking the bright lights of KL.

Verdict

An excellent property with reasonable rates that is away from just far enough away from the noisy bustle of the golden triangle but close enough to walk there (5 minutes).
