Lombok suffers another devastating earthquake

Lombok, Indonesia has been struck by another earthquake, two weeks to the day after a fatal 6.9-magnitude quake which killed upwards of 480 people.

The latest earthquake also measured 6.9 on the Richter scale and has so far killed one person.

So far, reports of widespread damage have been minimal.

According to The ABC, Teddy Aditya, an official at Indonesia’s search and rescue agency said from Mataram, the main city in Lombok said: “I was in a restaurant when the shaking started.

“The lights went out, they are still out. Everyone is still outside, not going back in.

“We are urging the public not to panic and to stay away from buildings and big trees.

Adding, “We are also urging them not to believe hoaxes and false information.”

The Indonesian Red Cross posted the following clip to Twitter of the damage following the quake.

The quake was the strongest of several tremors to strike Lombok over the weekend.

Locals also took to Twitter to post a video of the quake.

Sadly, some of the hardest hit areas of the earthquake are in the most remote regions of the island.
